Emily needs:

Stop unwanted mail

Question for the US-based users: how can I stop all the crap mail that I get on a daily basis? I don't even live in the US anymore anyway!

I would love to know if there's a one-step way to get rid of catalogs, junk mail, coupons, credit card offers, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!

Don't know how to stop it, but my friend has a good idea for the second best thing: Exacting revenge on the junkmailers.

It takes a little bit of work to stop receiving most junk mail. This About article lists two places to register with and other helpful tips. Scroll down to the section that says 'Register Your Name'. For most catalogs, you will need to call and ask them to stop sending.

    two things:
    1. go directly to the Direct Marketing Association (link here: http://www.thedailygreen.com/going-green/tips/966) they're the ones who have the power to stop the junk.
    2. another thing you can do is stop mail that says "you've been pre-approved" etc. etc. (e.g. credit cards)...if you look on one of those pieces of mail, they are required to have an "opt out" notice - just follow their directions

I also use http://www.catalogchoice.org/ which seems to work. But defintely the first step is to get off the credit card offers list - that gets rid of a bunch on its own.
