Weekend activity in Santiago

This is my first weekend in Santiago and I am wondering what is the best way to spend it? What are the best 'must do' activities in Santiago?

Hi Lily! I actually wouldn't necessarily recommend Vitacura purely because it's hard to get to via public transportation. It does have good nightlife, but nothing we don't have in the US.

If you want to go out and have someone to go with, try the Bellavista neighborhood (metro Baquedano) - I wouldn't advise going alone, but with a friend it's fun and has good restaurants and clubs.

Also check out La Vega, Santiago's main market (metro Cal y Canto). It's got EVERYTHING, fruits, veggies, meats, restaurants, etc and is a very typical Santiago experience.

And last but not least, here's a guide to all sorts of things to do in the city: http://www.needish.com/needs/view/5303/barrios-interesantes-en-santiago - enjoy!

Yeah you should try Bellavista. Patio Bellavista has nice pubs and live music and there's plenty of places to dance.

You can also try Providencia for bars, the Orrego Luco area or Liguria which is right next to Manuel Montt subway station.

    Lasagna at Liguria, a must!

Daily activities: Parque Forestal, Museo de Bellas Artes, Cerro Santa Lucia, Cerro San Cristobal...very beautiful!

I also recomend Orrego Luco or Manuel Montt because its close to the subway and its a pretty safe area. But no matter where you go don't leave your belongings, jacket or purse unattended.

Be careful with your camara and try not to go out alone to La Vega or cerro santa lucia alone.

    have fun!!
